The Playful Otter

Sit quietly, gently close your eyes, and take a few deep, cleansing breaths. Relax your physical body by sending your attention to each part of your body beginning with your feet and moving up the body to the top of your head. Take as long as you like, revisiting any part of your body that continues to draw your attention. Since there may be underlying stress in the spine, the shoulders, and the neck, pull your shoulders up toward your ears, hold them there for a few seconds, and then release them completely. As your body continues to relax, begin to create a picture in your mind. Visualize yourself sitting beside a pond. This pond can be as large or as small as you like and surrounded by your favorite trees and flowers. The bright turquoise water in the pond is stunningly clear and calm. Walk to the water's edge and sit in the soft, green grass with your feet touching the cool water. As you sit peacefully, you notice an otter on the other side of the pond. She is happily playing in the pond, alternately swimming and floating in the beautiful water. For a moment, let yourself become the otter - feel yourself gliding through the water, then floating peacefully on its surface. Enjoy this joyful, relaxing environment. Play in the pond as long as you like, then return your consciousness to your feet dangling in the cool water. Once again, look out over the pond, take in the peaceful energy, and enjoy the vivid turquoise hue rising from its mirror-like surface. Slowly begin to make each breath a little deeper as you return your attention to your physical body. Focus on your body, and beginning at the top of your head, bring healthy energy all the way down to the tips of your toes. When you feel ready, open your eyes and take another long, deep breath as you return refreshed from your trip to the pond.
